“Out of the Head and into the Heart!” by Jeanne Placier, Administrative Goddess & Yoga Instructor at The Body Image Boutique
I awoke last Saturday morning, and these words came out of my mouth, I just said them out loud. I had no idea how, or why and I really don’t care, they were a gift and I am beyond grateful!
Being in our head and hearing an endless loop of “how come”, “why not”, “what if”, “but when” or “why me” can only hold us back, piss us off & keep us stuck.
So how do we cut the loop? We must practice getting “Out of the head and into the heart”. Into something we love to do, that feels good, makes us happy, makes us smile. If you are not drawn to meditation, which by the way, is an amazing practice to clear out the chatter in your head, this could be why you are a feeling a little “loopy” in the first place (hee, hee). Here are some other thoughts…
~ You had to know, I would first say…. START Meditating (seriously, you can even sit in your car for a moment before you start the engine and take a few breathes – no incense needed!)
~ Yoga, try a few different classes. You’ll be surprised to learn how diverse the classes and teachers are. Yoga is awesome for getting out of your head. It allows you to flow from pose to pose and focus on your breathe and posture.
~ Take a walk in a place that inspires you, whether it’s at Tiffany’s or the park. Take in the colors, sounds, smells and textures – fill up your senses with “love that”!
~ Flip through photo albums, whether they are in an actual album or on your phone. What made you smile in some of those photos? Where were they taken? Why haven’t you gone back to that place?
~ Music, rock on and have a dance party just like in “Risky Business”. “Take those old records off the shelf, I’ll sit and listen to them by myself”, or use Spotify! Find some old tunes that you haven’t heard in a while, remember the times, the people, the places – and of course the clothes & the hair!
As you can see just from this short list, there are many different ways to get out of our head, they key is that WE truly have to try. WE have to get up, WE have to move, WE have to do it!
Homework: Find yourself something that makes you happy!
